I am interested in capturing familiar plants in unfamiliar situations —life stages that are usually unavailable for us to see in the supermarket. Having grown a variety of plants over the years, I discovered that plants’ appearance could change dramatically over its lifespan. For example, a cabbage that I grew matured to 4 feet tall and blossomed. I have been visiting various community gardens or home gardens to capture fruits and vegetables — mainly capturing states that are beyond harvest. The photographs seek to engage and even challenge the viewers to contemplate where our food comes from today. This is not simply a demonstration that onions do not grow on trees, but also to open a dialog about how we plan to feed 7 billion of us.
